Using data put out by the Department of Justice, the Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund crunched some numbers and came out with some record-breaking results. In a nutshell, 2015 was the best year for whistleblowers yet!
The total amount of recoveries under the federal False Claims Act (qui tam and non-qui tam) for FY 2015: $3.58 Billion.
The total amount awarded in “declined” FCA cases, i.e., in which the government declined to intervene: $1.15 Billion – a record amount.
The total amount awarded to relators: almost $600 Million – a record amount.
The total amount awarded to relators in declined case: $335 Million – a record amount.
